Hello and welcome to Heaven’s Maid. We are a small family business who gradually turned a hobby into a way of making a living. Believe it or not but we started by producing some order of service booklets for a family members funeral and after receiving such lovely comments and feedback, we decided to look into other areas of event stationery and keepsakes. We looked around searching the high street and online and found only one thing that was clearly available and that was the number of expensive... more

sugar sponge 3

My name is Sarah Rowe and I am the owner, designer and maker of Sugar Sponge Cakes, which is based on the Hertfordshire / Buckinghamshire borders. The idea for Sugar Sponge Cakes was founded in May 2010, after getting a fantastic response to creating cupcakes for my daughters christening. After practising and refining my recipes, I finally started trading in January 2011. Since then I have created a wide variety of cakes and cupcakes and I believe thoroughly in my company slogan:  “Scrumptious... more

This week I came across the competition on the Money Supermarket website and thought I should join in the fun and share my ideas to their readers. As you already know I do love to save money. I wouldn’t say I was tight with money, I just like to find a bargain if I can and am always looking for value for money. When planning my wedding, I had exactly the same belief.  I know some couples are very fortunate to have family members to heavily contribute in costs but even so, it’s always... more

Wedding Day

My wedding theme was vintage inspired and I really wanted my bridesmaids to have a real take on that with a romantic, modern edge.  I also wanted my bridesmaids to reflect my personality and basicially reflect me. I was looking for a gold champagne dress.  Nothing too long as both my bridesmaids are very petite.  I found a perfect dress for them from BHS in their wedding collection.  Its the Anna champagne satin bridesmaid dress.  It was originally £80 but if you sign up for the BHS email newsletter,... more

The morning of my wedding was finally here and to my surprise I woke up quite calm.  The room at the Marriott hotel was lovely and the bed and facilities were so welcoming but I didn’t sleep that well.  I missed Mick and our daughter Daisy.  In a way I felt a bit guilty that i was staying in a lovely room without my little family. The nerves started to get to me a little and I had the horrible I need a nervous poo feeling but thought god how can I go? my friend might hear!! Once I was fully... more

Friday! the day before the wedding! The morning was quite relaxed with me, Mick and Daisy having breakfast together.  I then had to pack Daisy’s things ready to go to my mums as I wasn’t going to see her until my wedding day which felt really strange! Once I dropped Daisy off , I cleaned the house like a mad woman, with rubber gloves on to protect my pretty nails!  I know I was staying in a hotel for the next two nights but couldn’t bare leaving it messy and I knew full well Mick... more

After 18 months or so of planning, my wedding day was finally getting here. I wasn’t really a stressed bride or bridezilla when it came to all the planning but the week leading up to my wedding really got to me.  I started to worry about the small detail of things, the thought of saying my vowels, tripping or treading on my veil or dress, I had become a secret wreck. The Monday before, I got the most nastiest migraine.  Nothing would get rid of it.  I couldn’t wait to put my daughter... more

teacup 3

As you know my theme is vintage inspired.  Every wedding show I have been to,  has had vintage crockery on display.  I was determined to buy one. Mismatched china crockery can be placed anywhere for your wedding. You could use them to hold some cute bon bon sweets, set some teacups and mismatched saucers  on a vintage tea tray to create a quirky table plan? You could have each cup represent a table of guests with a cute brown postal tag wrapped around the handle with the guests names on? The... more

This week I had my wedding hair appointment with Sam Roberts wedding hair stylist.  I wasn’t sure at first if I was having a wedding hair trial or if it was a general consultation. My appointment consisted of Sam taking down some details.  I was really impressed how interested she was in my wedding right to the fine detail. I looked through her portfolio and described to her how I would like my hair and showed her my wedding hairpiece and a picture of my dress.  Whilst I was talking, she... more

Pomander

My wedding flowers on a budget seem to be going really well. So far I have ordered my bridal posey, bridesmaid pomander for my daughter, garland for the top table, oval table arrangement for the registry table, grooms buttonhole, mother of the bride corsage, 5 corsages, 6 buttonholes, cake topper, and two bridesmaid posys. All of this has come to just under £200 and they look stunning! The advantage of using foam roses is that they look natural and they are something you can keep forever or sell... more

This afternoon I decided to go and stretch my legs and have a little potter around a small local wedding fair at the Burgess Hall in St Ives, Cambridgeshire with my daughter Daisy. There wasn’t really much there that took my interest as now I have most things planned and booked, however I did spot a stand with vintage looking flower arrangements with my favourite colours of roses.  Once I got a bit closer, I recognised the florist………. it was my florist and they were my foam... more

Flowers for your wedding (apart for your dress of course) really do show an insight of your soul.  The mix of flowers and colours can be breathtaking.  Even if you get inspiration from a photo, or even a painting (like me) after adding your personal touch, you can claim that design as your own and claim your individuality. My theme as you know is vintage inspired.  It may not be correct vintage to some, but its what I feel is vintage to me. I love roses.  I find them so romantic and soft looking... more
